DIY Gutter Maintenance
Maintaining the gutters on your home is not an easy task.  Cleaning and repairing your gutters can also be very dangerous, because you have to get up on the ladder.  When you have gutters on the 2nd story, things get really  complicated.

Clearly, it’s in the interest of your health to avoid ladders by keeping gutters well maintained. But that’s easier said than done. You might not be aware of what constitutes appropriate gutter maintenance. Let us help!

Keep reading to discover exactly how to do it.

5 Best Tips for Pain Free Gutter Maintenance

Tired of gutter problems? Use the following tips to keep your gutters functioning properly all year round. Do it right and your gutters could last up to 40 years!

1. Inspect The Gutters Periodically
Inspecting your gutters is the best way of avoiding more serious problems.  Make a habit of visually inspecting them every year once they’ve been installed. It’s especially important in fall and winter, when leaves and debris may become a greater issue. However, it’s important to maintain this routine year-round.

As soon as you spot a blockage, or see a leak, or hear a dripping, you can take steps to sort it out.

2. Periodic Cleaning
Inspection is one thing, but cleaning is another.

You should get into the habit of cleaning your gutters or having them cleaned by a professional. It’s natural for leaves, dirt and other forms of debris to clog your gutters over time. Cleaning is essential.

You can use your hands (wear gloves) to remove the larger stuff. Try a trowel to scoop out any mud. And use a brush to remove algae and mold, and get your gutter sparkling clean.

3. Install Gutter Guards
It’s natural for debris to get into your gutters.

But that doesn’t mean you shouldn’t take steps to stop it happening. Gutter guards are an ideal solution. You can use vented guards to cover the entire gutter (aside from space for the water to come out). They fit over the top and are secured in places using brackets.

You could opt for screened guards instead. These are cheaper and you can buy them yourself. However, they don’t offer the same level of protection from debris.

We offer an excellent Gutter Protection System, that is an aluminum drop in system.  It is fast and easy to install.  There are no clips or hangers, lays flat inside the gutter and allows maximum water flow; up to 22 inches of rain per hour.
4. Keep Things Tight
Loose gutters are bad news.

You need to keep things tight wherever possible. This is where inspection comes in handy. You will spot a loose gutter before it falls away from the wall entirely, saving you time and money.

Try fixing fascia hanger brackets to solve the problem. They’re relatively simple to install yourself. Otherwise, get a professional gutter repair company to fit them for you!

5. Stop the Dripping
Ever get frustrated with that annoying dripping that can develop in your downspouts over time?

Here’s a nice easy fix: simply attach a rope into the inside of the gutter. It should extend from the top to the bottom of the downspout. The water droplet will now cling to the rope as opposed to dropping from the top!

There you have it: 5 top tips for pain-free gutter maintenance.

Like most things on your house, your gutters require routine maintenance to keep them in working order. Unfortunately, they won’t fix themselves!

Thankfully, there are lots of simple steps you can take. Hopefully, the information here has helped shed a light on what you can do.
