Winter is officially here along with snow, cold temperatures, and cozy nights in. Denver Gutters in Winter

Common Winter Damage to Gutters in Denver

You want to spot winter damage to gutters before they cause a major problem. Here are the most common issues to look out for.
Icicles
Icicles can pose many problems to your gutters and home. They place extra weight on your roof and gutters. That causes wear and tear to your gutters and your roof.
In addition, icicles can be dangerous if they fall. You don't want them hanging from your roof around pets or family members.
Ice Dams
Snow falls on your roof. Then, it melts from the heat of your home and can refreeze in your gutters--resulting in ice dams.
These ice dams cause a blockage in your gutters. When water can't flow through gutters, this can result in a backup and leaking. It keeps all the water on your roof which can bend or even break your gutters from the weight.
Buildup of Snow
Having too much snow on your roof can also cause damage. Gutters are meant to divert rainwater away from your home.
This protects the foundation and structure of your home and keeps moisture away. Gutters are not meant to carry the weight of snow.
It costs nearly $1,000 to replace gutters. By noticing problems ahead of time, you can fix them and clean your gutters before the problems cause lasting damage. This is especially important if you live in a climate where it snows frequently, such as Colorado.
On average, gutters are meant to last you 20-40 years depending on how well you take care of them.
Condensation
Another problem when the snow starts to melt is condensation. Moisture from the roof can seep into your attic through poor insulation. The moisture can also result in leaks which can cause damage to your roof.
Eventually, you can have problems with mold and mildew in your attic. If you have items stored in your attic, they can be damaged from the moisture.
