The Importance of Keeping Gutters Clean

All homeowners should know that keeping your gutters clean is very important.  If your gutters go untouched for too long, complications may happen that can cause serious issues.  If your gutters get clogged, they are not able to redirect water flow away from your house.  This can result in damage to your roof, basement, and the foundation of the home.  Still not convinced?  Below is a list of six reasons to keep your gutters clean.

Protect Your Gutters From Damage

First of all, you need to take good care of your gutter system.  That begins with keeping the gutters clean so debris does not build up and cause damage.  If you leave the debris uncleaned, you will end up having to repair or even replace your gutters.  This can be a costly mistake, especially if you end up having to do a total replacement.

Protect Your Roof

If you have neglected to clean your gutters, and the debris has clogged your system, rainwater will start to collect on the bottom of your roof.  This can cause severe damage to your roof shingles, and it may even lead to cracks.  Once a roof is cracked, you will have rainwater leaking into the inside of your house.  Interior leaks can rot your ceiling, or floor, which is very expensive to fix.

Avoid Pests

Another side effect of a clogged gutter system is the presence of pests.  Insects and rodents love to hang out in water, which is what will happen if rainwater remains in your gutters.  You will suddenly find all kinds of vermin living in your gutters.  If left untreated, these pests will find a way into your house through the gutters.  To keep them out, keep your gutters clean!

Protect Your Basement

Did you know that clogged gutters can cause basement flooding?  If your gutters are clogged, rainwater will redirect to the base of your house, just above the basement.  If left untreated, the water will start to leak into the basement, which can cause mold or mildew to form.  Once that happens, your basement becomes very unhealthy for you and your family.

Avoid Foundation Issues

Once you experience basement flooding, the foundation of your house is in serious danger.  A good flood can destroy the foundation or at the very least make it unstable.  This is very dangerous, as a home with an unstable foundation will be costly to fix.  Also, if your foundation is damaged, your house will not pass an inspection if you ever plan to sell.

Avoid Damage The Appearance of Your House

When your gutters become clogged with built up debris, it is often visible to the exterior of your home, especially in the front of the house.  Rainwater can damage and deteriorate the siding of your house.  It can also stain the siding and give your home a worn out appearance.  So, while it is not the most important reason to keep your gutters clean, it ends up being the most obvious.

With all this said, now is the time to make sure your homes gutters are clean and don't have any issues.  At Colorado Seamless Gutters, we can help you with this project.  See how we can help you with the gutter cleaning and repair process.
