roof health how to keep your roof and gutters healthy
Do you have a roof? If so, then you should be concerned about its health. Roofs are the first line of defense against inclement weather and severe storms. A healthy roof will protect your home from water damage and preserve the integrity of your ceilings and walls. In this blog post, we'll discuss 4 tips to keep your roof in good condition as well as how rain gutters can help!

Check for signs of damage

Tip #01  - The most important tip for keeping your roof in good condition is to routinely check for signs of damage. Signs that you should contact a contractor include moss or lichen growth, large areas with peeling paint or shingles, and the presence of standing water on the surface.
Shingles can be a sign that there’s something wrong with your roof. If you notice any siding or baseboards are missing, cracked, curling up at the corner (as if they were peeling), it might just mean an old shingle needs to go and get replaced. It doesn’t take much for water damage in these areas of your house to cause greater problems - especially around windows!

Inspect Your Gutters for Damage and Clogs

Tip #02   - The gutters of your home are a hidden danger that is often overlooked. Blockages can cause serious problems for the integrity and quality of all exterior surfaces on your property including the roof, fascia, siding, foundation - you name it! Twice each year make sure to clean out those pesky blockages or else they will eventually form ice dams in winter which lead to expensive damage around the entire perimeter as well as inside.

The healthiest roof is one that drains properly. Sometimes rain gutters get clogged with debris, and this can lead to water pooling on the roof, which then freezes in wintertime.

Prevent Ice Dam Formation

Tip #03   - If your attic isn’t well-insulated, not only will you have problems with ice dams on your roof in the winter, but moisture issues that can lead to wood rot as well as insect infestation. Having enough insulation and proper ventilation help prevent these pesky nuisances and keep your roof healthy along with all of its components, including your gutters.

Trim Your Trees Away from The Roof

Tip #04 - Limbs over the roof are a big problem. Trimming back limbs that hang overhead is an easy way to avoid costly repairs and keep your gutters from getting clogged with leaves all winter long! Clogs can create chole points that pool water or send it to places it shouldn't be, like the inside of your abode.

In Conclusion

Having a proper roof that protects includes checking everything from top to bottom. The system in place is there to ensure the proper functioning and to help your home stay safe and without repairs that can be prevented.

You should be checking your gutters a few times each year, depending on the severity of the weather in your area. If you live somewhere with frequent rain and snowfall, it's best to check twice per year for clogs or other potential problems.
