When snow falls on your roof, some of it melts and runs down to the roof overhang. Since the overhang has no insulation beneath it, the water begins to drip and suddenly refreezes, forming icicles.

Icicles pose obvious safety risks to people, either by falling on them directly or by dripping onto driveways and walkways, creating dangerous ice patches on the ground.

Also, because water expands as it freezes, it can ruin your gutters and even work its way into the internal structures of your home, causing expensive internal water damage.

De-icing Cable System

Colorado Seamless Gutter's self-regulating de-icing system prevents icicles and ice dams from forming in the first place. By automatically adjusting its power output to accommodate any changes in outside air temperature, the CSG system delivers the exact amount of heat required to prevent ice and ice damage.

Old-fashioned "heat tape" solutions use conventional resistance wires to create heat, similar to the way filament in a light bulb creates light and heat. And that's also why they tend to burn out in just a few years.

In contrast, the CSG uses two parallel "bus" wires, separated by a conductive carbon polymer. As the temperature drops, the polymer increases conductivity, which produces heat. As the temperature rises, the polymer decreases conductivity and less heat is generated.

So the CSG system uses electricity more economically and lasts 10 to 15 years longer than conventional heat tape solutions.
